Gunsmith Tor Egil Mauseth has long researched old gunsmithing traditions in Østerdalen, especially the type known as box-barrel rifles. They are characterized by an octagonal barrel and a square breech section, hence the name box barrel. They were originally built with flintlocks and later converted to percussion locks. Tor Egil will talk about the background of these firearms, how they were made, and gunsmiths we know of from North Østerdalen in the 18th and 19th centuries. He will bring examples from his own collection. The Museum of North Østerdalen will also exhibit several examples from its own collections. Admission NOK 100. Coffee/tea and cake will be served. Welcome! The event is a collaboration between Anno Musea i Nord-Østerdalen and Huset Aukrust Read less
