In the autumn of 1949, Kjell and Kari Aukrust spent time in Paris. One evening, Dagbladet’s correspondent took them along to the famous lesbian club Le Monocle. It became a feature article!
Siri Lindstad has written a book about queer lives after the war, with Paris as a focal point. This is where many of the queer artists we know from that period travelled — Tove Jansson, Gunvor Hofmo, Astrid Tollefsen, Gidske Anderson, James Baldwin. And when Hofmo and Tollefsen wrote travel letters home to Dagbladet, it was Kjell Aukrust’s Paris drawings that were used to illustrate the texts.
Welcome to celebrate Kjell Aukrust’s 105th birthday with a trip to la rive gauche, the left bank of the Seine, the queer ghost side!
After the event in Flåklypasalen, there will be a French café in Solan og Ludvigs kafe!
The event is a collaboration between Huset Aukrust and Alvdal Bibliotek
Admission NOK 100, available at the door or at www.aukrust.no
